How Britvia works

You should understand exactly what an adviser does, what they cannot control and how they are paid before you rely on their advice. This is how Britvia works.

  1. What Britvia does

    • Publishes free guidance on UK universities, courses, costs and applications, linked to official sources.
    • Reviews your background through the free UK University Assessment and suggests realistic next steps.
    • Helps you build a shortlist with clear reasons, prepare applications and compare offers.
    • Explains the published Student visa process so you can plan, without giving personal immigration advice.
  2. What universities decide

    • Whether to make you an offer, and on what conditions.
    • Entry requirements, English requirements, fees, deadlines and scholarships.
    • When to issue your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
  3. What the UK Government decides

    • Student visa decisions are made by UK Visas and Immigration, under rules published on GOV.UK.
  4. What you remain responsible for

    • Giving accurate information and submitting only genuine documents.
    • Writing your own personal statement and application answers.
    • Meeting university and visa deadlines, and paying fees and deposits on time.
    • Checking the latest official information before making decisions or payments.

Where our information comes from

  • Visa and immigration information: GOV.UK, summarised in our own words with a link to the official page.
  • University and course information: the university's official website, recorded with the date we checked it.
  • Undergraduate application processes: UCAS and the universities themselves.
  • Scholarships: the organisation that awards them, such as Chevening or the British Council.

Fast-changing information shows a last-reviewed date. Read our editorial policy to see how content is researched, reviewed and corrected.

How your personal data is handled

  • We collect only what we need to guide you, and we never ask for passport details at enquiry stage.
  • Marketing emails are sent only if you choose to receive them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Your information is stored securely and never sold.

Full details are in our privacy notice.

What students pay

  • The UK University Assessment and our guides are free.
  • Britvia Guided and Britvia Premium are optional paid services. The scope and price are confirmed in writing before you pay anything. See pricing.
  • We never ask students to pay for a university place, and we do not charge hidden fees.

University relationships and commission

Some universities may pay Britvia a recruitment commission when a student enrols, but only where a formal agreement is in place. We only describe a university as an official Britvia partner when that agreement exists, and we will always tell you if a university on your shortlist is one. Commission never decides which courses we recommend.

Where a formal recruitment agreement exists, a university may pay Britvia a commission when a student we have supported enrols. This does not change the fees students pay to the university.

How we manage conflicts of interest

  • Recommendations start from your goals, background and budget, not from a list of partners.
  • Every shortlisted course is recorded with the reasons it was suggested, including any concerns.
  • If a university on your shortlist is an official Britvia partner, we tell you before you apply.
  • We will recommend a non-partner university whenever it is the better fit.

A note on agent frameworks

UK universities use frameworks such as the UK Agent Quality Framework to manage the international recruitment agents they work with. These frameworks are not an accreditation of an agency, and Britvia does not describe itself as accredited by them.
